What is considered excessive noise?
Excessive noise is the kind of controllable noise made that aggitates
and interferes with the quality of life of all those around you. Examples are: loud music, loud TV's, large parties where yelling
and screaming take place, fighting and slamming doors.
We live in close quarters here, so please be extra-aware of how your
noise affects your neighbors, and think of how you would want to be treated if the situation was reversed.
The neighbor below
me keeps complaining that I'm stomping on my floor, but I'm not. Is there anything I can do to reduce the noise coming from everyday
movement in my home?
Yes. It seems that the majority of complaints about this specific issue are related to upper-level units
who have a good deal of tile or wood flooring throughout their units. This can actually increase the amount of noise that you're generating
whether you intend to or not. If you can lay down area rugs or avoid hard flooring throughout the majority of your home, you're more
likely to reduce the amount of noise you're creating for your neighbors.
What if I'm the downstairs neighbor who lives with what
sounds like elephants running across my upstairs neighbor's floors?
First, be polite when you address your neighbor. They may
not realize what is going on. Second, look into enclosing your ceiling if you haven't already.
